Challenges of the Health Sector in Yemen Republic: Unequal Confrontation

 

Summary

This study was aimed to evaluate the situation of the public sector (PC), in Yemen, and to understand the scale of the challenges PC faces, and he types of the difficulties & obstacles block its performance, during the period which followed the military coup against the legitimate power since 2014 and till now. The study relied on the descriptive & retrospective approach, made use of some official documents issued by related public sector, and by the regional & international organizations who are working in health sector within the same period. The study explored the dimension and the scale of unequal confrontation between 50% of the public sector – which was remained due to the war & the coup- and the number of services to be provided due to the needs of publics both the residents and the displaced. Adding to it the size of the financing gap in public sector which become totally dependent on the regional & international support in order to continue providing services to publics. The study showed some data related to the level of health services at the primary health care and its inability to meet the least of the international recognized standards, where one mother and six newly born infants die every two hours daily. The study provided some ideas related to reform the health sector with some recommendations to improve the health policies in Yemen.
